What Chess Clock Does

Chess Clock turns an iPhone or iPad into a two-player tournament-style clock for over-the-board games. It includes built-in bullet, blitz, rapid, and classical presets, plus custom time controls with no increment, Fischer increment, Bronstein delay, and simple delay.

The app also supports player profiles, saved game history, move-by-move timing, charts, statistics, shareable text exports, Live Activities, sound feedback, haptics, orientation controls, and light or dark appearance options.

Getting Started

  1. Open the Clock tab.
  2. Choose a time control or open advanced setup for a custom game.
  3. Select the White and Black players, then choose who moves first.
  4. Tap Start Game.
  5. After each move, the player who moved taps their side of the clock.

Common Questions

How do I save a completed game?

Games can be saved after a flag, draw, or resignation. If auto-save is off, Chess Clock asks whether to save or discard the completed game.

Where are saved games?

Open History to review saved games, timing charts, pressure curves, and move logs. Individual games can be shared or deleted from there.

Can I add players?

Yes. Open Players to create, edit, or delete reusable player profiles. Each profile can have a name, avatar symbol, and accent color.

How do I change sound settings?

Open Settings, then adjust Sounds, move tap click, low-time beep, flag alert, volume, and the low-time alert threshold.

How do I flip the clock?

Open Settings to change board orientation, flip board sides, and make the panels readable from each player's side.

Can I export game data?

Yes. Chess Clock can share a single saved game, your full game library, or filtered statistics using the iOS share sheet.

Troubleshooting

The screen locks during a game

Chess Clock keeps the screen awake while a game is active. If the device still locks, check iOS Low Power Mode and system display settings.

I do not hear sounds

Check the app's Settings screen, device volume, Silent Mode, Focus settings, and whether haptics or sounds are disabled at the system level.

Live Activities are not showing

Confirm that Live Activities are enabled for Chess Clock in iOS Settings. Live Activities only appear on supported iOS versions and devices.

I want to remove my data

Use Settings to clear History, clear Players, or reset all settings. You can also delete individual games from History.

Privacy

Chess Clock stores player profiles, saved games, move logs, statistics, and preferences locally on your device. The app does not require an account and does not sell personal information.
